The Havanese is the national dog of Cuba and the only breed native to the island. They descended from the "Blanquito de la Habana" (Little White Dog of Havana), which were brought over by Spanish settlers in the 1600s. These dogs became the prized possessions of the Cuban aristocracy, often referred to as "Silk Dogs" because of their incredibly soft, insulating coats.
Today, they are beloved worldwide for their "circus dog" antics and unwavering loyalty.
If you’re looking for a puppy that’s cheerful, affectionate, and full of charm, the Havanese is a hidden gem. Small in size, but BIG on personality — they’re known as one of the best companion dogs in the world.
Havanese are intelligent and responsive, which makes training relatively easy — especially with positive reinforcement. They enjoy learning and love pleasing their owners.
What makes the Havanese special is their joyful, affectionate energy. They are emotionally warm, playful, and deeply loving.
Why Havanese?

HDB-Friendly
They are amongst the approved small-medium breeds permitted in HDB flats because of their small size, manageable temperament, and low-shedding nature. They are suitable for high-rise living and adapt well to apartments.
Hypoallergenic & Non-Shedding
Perfect for Singaporeans with allergies or those who take pride in a pristine home. The Havanese has hair, not fur, which means they do not shed on your clothes or furniture. This keeps your indoor air quality higher and your cleaning time lower.
Great Temperament
Havanese are known for their sunny, playful temperament. They are soft, patient, and social, making them great with kids, guests, and even other pets.
They bond closely with their owners and enjoy staying near you — whether you’re working, relaxing, or just moving around the house. They LOVE being around people and are always ready to brighten your day.
The "Heat-Defying" Silk Coat
Contrary to appearances, the Havanese coat is a natural insulator. In Cuba’s tropical heat, their long, silky hair actually protects their skin from the sun and acts as a cooling layer. This makes them significantly more resilient to Singapore’s humidity than other long-haired breeds.
Genetic Robustness & Long-Term Health
When sourced from elite, health-tested lines, the Havanese is one of the sturdiest and healthiest toy breeds with an average lifespan of 14–16 years.
