Dachshund: Small Dog, Big Personality

The Dachshund’s history is as unique as its shape. Originating in Germany over 300 years ago, the name literally translates to "Badger Dog" (Dachs= badger, Hund= dog). They were specifically engineered with short legs and a long, muscular body to burrow into badger dens.

Their loud, persistent bark was designed so hunters could find them underground. In the late 19th century, they transitioned from the forest to the palace, becoming a favorite of Queen Victoria.

Today, they are global icons of urban style. Dachshunds are confident, curious, and sometimes hilariously stubborn. They’ll make you laugh daily with their dramatic expressions and cheeky antics. They are little characters with big hearts.

Once a Dachshund chooses you, you’re their person. Expect a shadow that follows you everywhere… including the bathroom.

Why Dachshunds?

Collapsible content

HDB-Friendly Size

Dachshunds typically weigh under 5kg, making them easily HDB-compliant. Their size makes them the perfect "commuter dog" — easy to carry in a pet bag for a trip to a dog-friendly mall or a taxi ride.

Dachshunds don’t need a huge home to be happy. As long as they get their daily walks and playtime, they’re content little companions.

Highly Affectionate

Dachshunds LOVE to burrow under blankets and snuggle close. If you want a dog that sticks to you like glue (and doubles as a warm hot water bottle), this is your new best friend.

 Low-Maintenance

Dachshunds are low-maintenance dogs, needing only light grooming, simple hygiene care, and moderate daily exercise. They are typically low-odour and fastidious about their own cleanliness. With basic care and consistency, they’re easy to manage and fuss-free for everyday living.

Long Lifespan

When sourced ethically with good genetics, Dachshunds are one of the longest-living breeds, often reaching 12 to 16 years. This makes them a wonderful long-term companion for growing families.
